The Women’s Centre is seeking applicants for a combined position of Project Coordinator and Frontline Advocate.  The Project Coordinator / Advocate will manage a two year project documenting women’s resistance / police response to sexual violence through digital storytelling and arts based workshops.  In the Advocate’s role, they will also provide legal information, support and strategy to women experiencing violence, poverty or lack of access to justice.

We are seeking candidates with backgrounds / degrees in Women’s Studies, Sociology, Law or Legal Advocacy, Social Work or commensurate experience in a social justice context. Candidates must demonstrate a clear understanding of the causes and impacts of gendered and racialized violence, and specifically sexual violence and harassment.  Familiarity with criminal and family law systems would be an asset.  A more detailed job and project description is available at www.nwowomenscentre.org

This is a two year position, 28 hours per week for year one, 21 hours per week for year two, pending funding extension. Salary will be equivalent to at least $20 per hour.

Antiviolence Project Coordinator and Part Time Advocate

This position has two parts; the primary responsibility of the Coordinator/Advocate will be to manage a two year, digital story telling project responding to sexual violence and harassment of women (Just Believe Us: Recognizing Women’s Resistance, Restoring Dignity).  The Coordinator will recruit, support and coordinate project participants; work with project partners to deliver arts based, antiviolence programming and assist with development, promotion and distribution of project productions.  Participants include women from the community and police officers.  This position is funded for two years, at three days per week at a base rate of $20 per hour.

The second part of this position involves working as an assistant to the Centre Coordinator, providing legal information, strategy and support to women experiencing violence, poverty or lack of access to justice. This portion of the position is currently funded for one year, at one day per week at the same rate of pay.  Position may extend to second year depending on funding.

Qualifications:

Degree in Women’s Studies; Sociology; Social work; Law or related field; or commensurate experience

Demonstrated experience or understanding of gendered and racialized violence (especially sexual violence) and its impact

Understanding of and ability to work within an Anti Oppression, Anti Racism framework

Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills

Demonstrated organizational and time management skills; must be self directed

Ability to work with project partners from multiple sectors

Understanding of criminal and family law systems an asset
